The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States. "For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

The demand of the president of the chain of cheese stores is specific. He wishes to reduce expenses and improve profits from his store by discontinuing stockingof the imported cheese. However, the comparisons he made for domestic and importedcheese was not complete enough. Before making the decision, he should consider aboutit more completely.

First of all, he's seeing the benefits of domestic cheese occording to the best-sellingcheese of last year, and the time period is quite short. It is hard to see the benefits of domestic cheese in the future from a one-year period statistic. He states that the five best-selling cheeses at their newest store were all domestic cheddar cheese from Wisconsin. Possibily their newest store were close to Wisconsin so they got a cheaper price for cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. People prefer cheaper products. We have no statistics of the cheeses stores except for the newsetstore showing the best-selling cheeses are all domestic cheese. Lacking of a wholesomestatistic, it is hard to determine the strong requirements of domestic cheese.

In addition, the information of the best-selling cheeses at their newest store is not comprehensive enough. In spite of the five best-selling cheeses of their newest store, we didn't get the selling records of the cheeses other than the five best-selling.There is a chance that the selling amounts of the five best-selling cheeses and the other cheeses are quite close. Perhaps the best-selling cheeses from the sixth to tenth are all imported cheeses.

After all, it is not wise to make a important decision occording to a survey of a magazine only. There are still lot of things to configure out. The president should consider about the risks discontinuing all the stocking of the imported cheeses brings.
