37"Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect-that is, on reasoning and other cognitive skills."

The society does places much emphasis on the intellect, but they are not using the right ways such that people are lacking the ability on reasoning and othercognitive skills.

As playing the important role of a society, the government are focusing on the intellect. The government emphasizes the importance of education in school, offers lots of programs for the grownups having jobs, and even holds community collegefor those who retired from jobs and the elders. It's purpose is to educate citizens, hoping they will gain a lot on reasoning and other cognitive skills through knowledge on various fields all the time. However, as being educated beyond the society, one doesn't really gain the skills he is supposed to gain.

In school, students are required to learn various subjects including math, language, science, and so on. It is thought that by learnig knowledge on different fields, people could gain intellect on reasoning and other cognitive skills. In fact, we gain knowledge about different areas in school, but we have few chances to learn how to combine the knowledge we own. In math class, I recognize lots of symbolsand functions to learn those tougher theorems. I know the meaning of the symbols, the definitions and originations of the theorems. Still, I can't really use those theoremsto solve questions logically. If I gain the ability on reasoning, I should have usedthose theorems I learned to solve problems.

In addition, I gain lots of knowledge on history both in school and out of school. The matter is that history is just a story to me, I am not cognizant of the valuebehind the historical event. Although living in a different dynasty, we could learn a lot from the history to put to current situations. Seeing the troubles wars brought, we should have the awareness that we couldn't depend on fighting to solve problems. Seeing the hard-working of a musician in the past, I should know that hard-effort wouldhave some good effects. Unfortunatelly, the society doesn't really relate the knowledgeand experience you own to improve your cognitive skills. It is people ourselves whogain the intellect by ourselves.

Without a doubt, a society cares about the issue of intellect of its citizens for itbrings wealthness and fortune to a society. Indeed, it needs to modify the ways it emphasizes the skills. Except for offering programs and assigning the duties to educational institutions, the society shuold indoctrinate the reasons why they learnand what they could benefit from the subjects. Later on, people could improve theirskills on reasoning and cognitive skills.
